A socio-emotional assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of a child’s social and emotional functioning within the context of the significant systems in their life, including family, school, peers and the broader environment. It considers how interactions within these systems influence the child’s emotional functioning, social relationships and overall wellbeing.
Where appropriate, standardised trauma screening tools may be administered to explore the possible impact of adverse experiences. Findings inform recommendations that prioritise the child’s best interests.
A specialised, objective assessment conducted in response to allegations, concerns or suspicions of child abuse. The assessment aims to investigate the specific inquiry outlined in the referral mandate through a systematic, evidence-based evaluation of information obtained from a developmentally appropriate forensic interview with the child and other relevant available information.
The process includes a pre-forensic (socio-emotional) assessment and a structured forensic interview conducted in accordance with internationally recognised forensic interviewing guidelines.
Comprehensive professional reports documenting assessment findings, analysis and relevant conclusions or recommendations, according to the purpose and scope of the referral.
Reports may be prepared for use in court proceedings or other relevant professional and decision-making contexts.
Provision of expert testimony in court proceedings relating to child abuse and child wellbeing, within the scope of social work expertise and the specific mandate of the matter.
Counselling services available in person and virtually, subject to the nature of the presenting concern and the suitability of the service.
Counselling is offered separately from forensic assessment services, with appropriate consideration of professional boundaries and potential conflicts of interest.
